During this morning’s run I realized again that our sense of course can be turned around. Instead of turning right, I can turn left. My running buddy sets out the course for each of our runs and I just follow her. This reminds me of a paper I wrote awhile ago, The storytelling of the marathon: How the Integration of the Mind and Body in the training and racing of the marathon is an Embodiment of the Hero’s Journey A-Storytelling-of-the-Marathon-09.20-21- There are definite steps in the hero’s journey. The quantum, nonlinearity of both the run, the training, the racing is where you can start in the middle and go background or start at the end and go to the middle. There are really no set linear steps. We live in a nonlinear world, even though most of our framework is linear. Mindfulness for the runner comes from letting and accepting the run as nonlinear.
